Plan-B Roubaix

68.22 mile gravel route. Starting/Ending at the Kalona Brewery, heading west and wrapping around Lake Belva Deer, along the dirt/grass mixed use trails.

-Rest stop at mile 22ish – Shauna and Tom’s house 🙂

-Water available at mile 36ish.

-Could swing back by house for another rest stop around mile 48. Would add another 4 miles or so to the total.

-Finish with beer and pizza at Kalona Brewery.

SUMMARY: longer option, food/water stops at miles 22 and 48, water at mile 36, single-track trail riding at the turn-around.

Plan-C Roubaix

Destination is Lake Darling State Park. Just under 69 miles, would be about 75 if we circle the lake for a water stop.

Water and Food (store) available at mile 21.

-Water, and possible food (I can likely arrange to have a cooler with stuff) also available at mile 51.

-Not sure if there is more than water available at the park (mile 38), waiting for word from the DNR. I might be able to leave a cooler with snacks and drinks there the day before, I’ll know more soon.

-So it’s a shorter route without circling the lake. If there is water at the lake, it would be on the south side of the lake. There are hiking/biking single-track trails around the west side of the lake to get to the south side. So if we want to hit the water, that would add about another 6 miles there and back to the north side. Not much of a need to circle the lake (compared to Plan-D).

-Some neat places to see, including the Skunk River Valley, Grace Hill historic church and bridge, some of the Kewash Trail, and Lake Darling itself.

SUMMARY: longer option (longest if we ride single-track at the lake), water/food stops at miles 21 and 51, water at 38 IF we ride the single-track and extend it to 75 miles total.

Plan-D Roubaix

Destination is Lake Darling State Park. Just over 62 miles, would be about 66 if we circle the lake for a water stop.

-Not sure if there is more than water available at the park, waiting for word from the DNR. I might be able to leave a cooler with snacks and drinks there the day before, I’ll know more soon.

-We would likely also be able to stop for at least water, and maybe food, in West Chester for water at miles 17 and 47. We know some folks at the church there.

-So it’s a shorter route. If there is water, it would be on the south side of the lake. There are hiking/biking single-track trails around the west side of the lake to get to the south side. So if we want to hit the water, that would add about another 6 miles there and back to the north side.

-Some neat places to see, including the Skunk River Valley, Grace Hill historic church and bridge, and Lake Darling itself.

SUMMARY: shortest route, water/food at miles 17 and 47, maybe water at mile 36 IF we ride the single-track and extend the total to 66 miles.
