Spring means time to renew your membership dues if you haven't already! Some of you may have noticed that your permissions on the website changed today if you have yet to renew your dues for 2013. This was supposed to be a gentle reminder for you to get that done shortly -- don't worry I will reverse the changes as soon as you have a chance to submit your dues. If your name no longer appears in this list, then you need to renew if you want to continue to receive Iowa HEAT membership benefits in 2013. If you no longer wish to be a part of the team, we are sad to see you go, but you will always be welcome to rejoin in the future!

Please login to your account and visit the following page to renew your Iowa HEAT dues online, (it's painless, really):

Spring is around the corner (really this time). Happy training!...

Another winter month is in the books! Although the weather has kept us indoors, spring is just around the corner! I don't know about you, but I am already getting ready for the warm weather and some fun races. If you haven't signed up for your summer races yet -- check out our 2013 race schedule and start planning, races are filling up fast. Despite the frigid temps we have still been active this February. Here is a summary of what we have been up to:

  • NCC - We have concluded our NCC competition this month! If you could not enter all of your mileage for February today please just send a quick email to and we will update the timestamp for you. We will be announcing the winners and doing the random drawings on March 10th from 1:30-2pm right before the Multi Sport Expo.
  • Membership...

For those that weren't able to attend the meeting this past Monday, here is a short summary of what we discussed:

Team updates

  • We had our make shift fit kit at the meeting for people to try on pieces. Uniform orders will be due no later than February 18th. Your membership durs for 2013 must be paid up before your order is placed. There is some interest in wool jerseys as well, please let us know if you would like one too.
  • We announced our official 2013 race schedule!
  • If you are competing in an Ironman branded event this year, drop a note to the team email. We have joined a new program that WTC unveiled this year called the TriClub program. Our club will get ranked, have a spot at free relay entries, and may get a free spotlight before some races this year. Also if you are on the...

Hey everyone! First: an important note. The membership meeting is this Monday, Feb 4th at 7pm at the Coralville Library. Unfortunately, there was an issue obtaining a Sugoi fit kit for the 2013 items, but we are compiling a makeshift "fit kit" from 2012 pieces that were ordered last year. This will be the only chance that you will be able to see, feel, or try on any Sugoi items before the 2013 order, so please try to make it. In addition, we will have an open panel discussion with some impressive endurance athletes that we arranged!! We have Tom Casavant an endurance swimmer who successfully completed the Rottnest Channel Swim, Daniel Bretscher a pro triathlete who recently returned to Mt. Vernon, and Nate Canton a prominent local ultra-runner who dabbles in duathlons. Don't miss the opportunity to pick these guys' brains!

Now for the updates! Another cold month has gone by and that puts us one month closer to triathlon season. Regardless, we have had a pretty active month...

Hello team! I hope this wintry change in the weather hasn't made too much of a dent in your workout schedule (like it has to mine!). But even if it has, give our NCC competition a try to bump your training back on track. Everyone agrees, it is a great winter motivator.

This month has been the first month of the competition with some amazing swim (and bike) results. We have some amazing competitors out there. Looks like it will be a great lead in to the North Dodge Athletics Club Indoor Triathlon in January where we have two HEAT members looking to repeat their 1st place finishes (Khris Vickroy and Kim Sprenger).

We also hosted a second swim clinic at the start of the month and it was another great success. If you missed these this year, be sure to take the opportunity to attend next time we setup another clinic, they have been extremely beneficial and motivating.

Other than that it has been a typical winter with lots of holiday cheer (and...

November has come and gone, and we are already into December! Even though the holidays are upon us and many of us are taking the opportunity to pull off our racing shoes, kick up and feet, and relax: Team HEAT is not slowing down this season. We had two big events in November and hope to continue providing you with ample opportunities to keep up your activity level as well as socialize with your fellow teammates throughout this winter.

In November we had the first of two swim clinics focused on improving position. The second swim clinic was just last weekend (Dec 2nd) and both were a huge hit. Special thanks to all of our presenters, Megan Oesting (former iFly coach and new Team HEAT member), Steve Lentz, Susan Ludwig, Jami McGinness and especially to Daniela Williams for not only coaching but also organizing the clinics. I had the pleasure of participating at the second clinic and I can confirm it was amazingly helpful. We definitely hope to organize these again next year.

For those that could not make it to the elections meeting, we elected our 2013-2014 Board of Directors. Also, I'd like to thank the 2011-2012 Board members for all of their effort and energy the last two years. We also have MANY fun upcoming events planned. So many, in fact, that I don't want to put all the details in one email because it would be way too long! So here are the titles and dates, please click the links for more information if you are interested.

In a little over a month we will be having our October annual Membership meeting. Monday Oct 22nd at 7:00pm at the Coralville Library. Every other year we elect a new Board of Directors, so we will be holding elections at that meeting. No new volunteers have stepped forward to run for the board, so the only change will be that Daniela Williams will be running as Vice President and Lucas Boddicker will step back to a member-at-large. There is still time to step forward! The current Board members have done a great job for the club over the past two years on top of their busy family, work, and training schedules, but please consider stepping forward to offer some fresh ideas and contribute to making this team great!

Our team has 73 members so by our Article of Organization, we must have 37 members in attendance or voting by proxy. If you absolutely cannot make the meeting, please download, print, and sign the proxy form and give it to a member that will be able to attend:
