Hi Team! Don't let winter get you down, we have some fun events coming up to keep you thinking about Tris despite winter's early arrival this year.

  • Cookie Exchange
This weekend (Sun Dec 7th)! Get ready to gorge on some cookies, swap recipes, and chat about triathlons! Join us at the Staskals house, just don't come empty handed (but don't worry, we will fully accept that your recipe involved driving to Hy-Vee and walking to the bakery)
  • 50x50s
Ready for a swim challenge? Sun Dec 14th -- This year we are doing Long course! Any questions can be directed to Tom Casavant (tomc@eng.uiowa.edu)
  • NCC

Some of you may have noticed that we experienced some (intentional) downtime yesterday as we transitioned to a new hosting provider (A Small Orange). This was a long time coming as we have had consistent (unintentional) downtime and weak support from our previous hosting provider. I believe this transition will provide a much more stable website for the team in the long term, but there always can be some blips in a transition like this so be sure to report any issues to the team email address immediately. Thanks for your patience!

Early this November, we held our annual membership meeting. Here are the quick notes!

  • The winners of the Kona coffee contest were Shauna DJ for predicting the men's race, and Steve Lentz for the women's (two years in a row -- he must have some trick)
  • This Tuesday, at 5:45am at Performance Fitness -- we will be holding our first Sufferfest of the winter. From here on out, Tuesdays at 5:45am is our only spin practice so be sure to check it out if you can. You do not have to be a Performance member to attend.
  • Please consider purchasing some cool HEAT gear! We had to purchase a lot of overage from Primal Wear this year and that has tied up some of the team's funds. Plus it all just looks cool ;)
  • The Staskals offered to host a cookie exchange this year -- details to come!
  • This year we have decided to rename NCC to HEAT Winter Challenge!...

We are a little under a month away from the next Membership meeting on Monday, November 3rd at 7:00pm at the Coralville Public Library. Please attend if possible because this is one of our biannual election meetings for the Board of Directors. We also will need people to run for the Board to fill vacancies in our Treasurer, Vice-President, and at least one Member-at-large positions. Please consider this! If you'd like to get an idea for what is involved, come to the BOD meeting tonight (Oct 8th) at the BioVentures Center at 6:00pm (2500 Crosspark Rd, Coralville, IA 52241). Anyone is welcome to attend.

In the membership meeting we will also be voting on a new Mission Statement for the team, discussing ways to improve our member benefits, and structure more ways to "give back" to the local endurance community. Make sure your voice is heard, put it in your calendar today!

Along with the membership meeting, we will be having a chili pot luck....

Our last membership meeting on May 12th fell on a day with some bad weather, but that didn't keep us from having a great time (just ask Chatty Natty). For those that missed it, I posted a quick summary to the forums:

Spring has sprung! Time to pull on those wetsuits, dust off that aero helmet, and put your elastic laces in your newest pair of running shoes. Well at least the last two. Who is ready for a DUATHLON?!

What were your fellow team members up to while waiting for the weather to improve? I'll tell you:

  • Photo Scavenger Hunt
We held our first Photo Scavenger Hunt with a hang-out at Sam's pizza in Iowa City following the April 12th event. Check out all the pics!
  • Swim Clinic
Coach Megan hosted another swim clinic for the team at her fancy new endless pool April 26th.
  • Riverrun
Riverrun came and went, our first year in a long time without an organized team participating. I blame this weather! I did see several of...

April already? It still feels like February to me!

Team HEAT hasn't let this weather hold us down, however. We held a membership meeting in March, and have social events and races already planned for the near future!

  • Membership meeting
If you missed it, the summary is available here.
  • Practices
Max Effect outdoor bricks have begun! Also, we held our last spin at Performance this morning. As for the track practices, watch the Calendar for updates. Weather hasn't let us move outdoors yet but we will shortly (Wed night / Fri morning).
  • Group workouts
Even if we don't have as many official practices during the summer -- we still encourage you to post to the forums and connect with training buddies on the team. We always have a...
