HEAT Highlights

In an effort to make the Iowa Heat Board more
accessible to all, this is the first in a series of quick
interviews with those team members that
volunteer their time to keep the club humming
along.

Board Member: Lynette Brown
Board Position: Secretary
Number of years associated with the team: 4
Lynette tell us about why you belong to the Heat and what you have enjoyed
most about it?

I belong to the HEAT for the camaraderie. It's been great to talk to others about
their experiences and to get tips and tricks.

If you had to weigh an elephant how would you accomplish it?
Water displacement, of course. ;)

Where do your athletic interests lie…tri, trail running, marathoning, swimming?
Which would you say is your current passion and why?

I would put biking at my top. I love going out with some music playing and just enjoying
the landscape and getting away from it all. And the ability for a 'refreshment stop' is a big plus. :)

Tell us about the worst boss you ever had?
I had a boss that was stuck in the 60s so he gave men preferential treatment, and went
through people's desks. But he was easily confused by technology so you could skate a
lot past him.

What has your most satisfying athletic accomplishment to date been?
Any of the half marathons I’ve finished. When I started running 5 miles seemed like
forever and now 13.1 seems less crazy than I thought.

Is there intelligent life in outer space?
“Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the
universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.” - Calvin

What is your “A” race this season…or which upcoming event are you most
looking forward to and why?

This is the year of the Beer Race. I completed the Race to Exile at Exile Brewing
in Des Moines, I'll run the Microbrew Mile in the Quad Cities this June and then
end with the Dam Backpocket run in August. A run, a shirt, a pint glass, and, of
course, a free beer!

What would you say to someone who was contemplating joining the Hawkeye
Endurance Athletic Team?

Just do it! It’s been great to be a part of a group of such great people. Not only are
many accomplished in athletics, but they’re just fun to hang out with.

What is you dream bucket race?
I think it would be epic to do a race somewhere really unique. Like the Easter Island
Triathlon. Not many people can claim that.
